Drug addiction is something that touches many of our lives. Data indicates that about 9.4% of the population has used illicit drugs in the last month. Certainly, use is not the same as addiction but it is a good indicator of how prevalent it is in our culture now days.
The estimate is that illicit drugs cost the USA alone over 193 Billion dollars annually. (These are figures from back in 2007 so with inflation this may be even higher now.) Clearly this is having a signifcant impact on our community. But for there to be impacts at the community level there first must be issues stacking up at the individual, family and workplace level.
I was recently asked to speak about drug addiction by Gemma McCrae for her new Podcast called Prosperity Kitchen. Prosperity Kitchen was voted one of the Top 100 New Podcasts or 2017 by the Huffpost.
We talk about drug addiction, in particular we focus on cocaine and marijuana addiction. We discuss why people initially take drugs, the signs to look out for that may mean you have an addiction, how to help yourself, how to help a friend or loved one who has a drug problem and how to educate your kids not to take drugs. We also touch on cigarette addiction. It is available on iTunes, Sound Cloud, Stitcher and YouTube search under the name of Prosperity Kitchen Podcast Drug Addiction.
