This week offers an excuse to improve couples intimacy. July 6th 2015 is International Kissing Day! The holiday began in the UK but has been adopted as an international holiday. The concept is for people to embrace the simple joys that come from a kiss. This is far from being as popular a holiday as Valentine’s Day is for romance. But that shouldn’t stop you from taking advantage of this opportunity to ask your sweetheart to pucker up.
If there were a Love Potion #9 it would be Oxytocin. Couples can add a boost to their connection level by simply increasing their level of contact such as kissing. You could also get a jolt of Oxytocin by exchanging a hug, holding hands or even a quick shoulder rub as you walk past. This sort of contact releases a powerful cocktail in our brains. Oxytocin is the chemical that helps with forming emotional bonds and plays a role in developing trust and happiness.
Reciprocity can be beautiful. You have probably already worked out that if kissing leads to more Oxytocin, which leads to closer bonds, wouldn’t that then lead to more kissing? You would be right. This is one way to start your relationship off into a really positive spin cycle.
The fabric of relationships is made up of these emotional bonds. If you have strong emotional bonds it carries over into other aspects of the relationship as well. You will likely find that it is easier to communicate with each other. Nature developed these bonds to help us cooperation and collaborate together in part so that we could effectively raise little ones.
“The real lover is the man who can thrill you by kissing your forehead or smiling into your eyes or just staring into space.” Marilyn Monroe
